How does the checkout process work?
The process of checking out / ordering on Zibbet goes like so;
- Buyer finds an item then adds it to their cart
- They complete the checkout process on Zibbet which takes them to PayPal
- At this point, PayPal takes over in terms of accepting the payment.
- Once payment is complete, the buyer is returned to Zibbet
What happens behind the scenes is between steps 3 & 4, then after step 4.
Between steps 3 & 4;
- Zibbet’s system logs the fact that the buyer is ‘paying’ for the item
- The items are taken out of your shop (ie; no longer for sale), or reduced by a quantity of 1 (which ever the case may be for the quantities you have available)
After step 4;
- PayPal signals to Zibbet that the payment was completed
- Zibbet uses this signal to update the sale records and mark the sale as final.
At this point, Zibbet’s end of the bargain has been finalized. The Zibbet system will not be updated if there is a refund via PayPal as the PayPal system is separate from Zibbet.
What can happen is if the buyer does not complete the payment to make it to step 4, then Zibbet’s system will have marked the item as sold, but will never receive the signal from PayPal about the payment being completed.
As such, the item is in a not-for-sale but not-sold limbo.
We recognise this is not very useful for a Seller, so we place a time limit of 7 days on this limbo. After this period, the item is automatically relisted in your shop for you.
If you are certain the buyer wont complete the payment within this 7 days, you can contact us at support@zibbet.com and we can cancel the order for you.
